  • A Team Led by Beijing Planetarium of BJAST Won Awards on the 16th International Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad

    From August 10th to August 20th, Ge Zhishuai and Guo Yilin of the Beijing Planetarium as the team leader, and Li Xin as the observer, led 5 middle school students from 3 provinces and cities to participate in the 16th International Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad (16th IOAA) in Poland. More than 230 players from 50 teams from 53 countries participated in the competition.

    As the only authorized institution in China, the Beijing Planetarium has formed teams to participate in the International Astronomy Olympiad in previous years, and has successfully held IOAA competitions in 2010 and 2018. Li Xin, a researcher of the Planetarium, exhibited the ancient Chinese starry sky culture to the participating countries at the Silesian Planetarium, which fully enhanced the international influence of the Beijing Planetarium in the field of astronomy education. With the joint efforts of the team leaders, staff and students, the Chinese team won 2 silver medals, 2 bronze medals and 1 encouragement award in this International Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad.
